Esalen Volunteer Pass - Kitchen

Please read the following information before beginning your registration to join the Esalen Volunteer community for a shift in the Kitchen Department.

NOTE: All volunteers must be 18 years or older.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Kitchen volunteer shifts are physically demanding. All kitchen volunteers must be capable of standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 25 lbs, bending, reaching, and performing repetitive movements. If you do no meet these criteria, please explore volunteer opportunities in Cabins or Farm & Garden.

When
Daily:
7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Volunteers may schedule their shift up to 14 days in advance.

What To Expect
Chop, prep, and clean with our talented kitchen crew. Get behind the scenes to support our staff in preparation of our daily feasts. No kitchen experience is required, but is always welcomed. All volunteers and staff must wear closed toe shoes during the shift.

What's Included
Before and after your shift, you are welcome to enjoy the whole Esalen campus. This includes meals, our daily class offerings by our Teachers in Residence, and the opportunity to bask in the Esalen hot springs, while building connection with yourself and others. Volunteers are welcome to arrive as early as 8:45 a.m. and stay on campus until 8:00 p.m. NOTE: Volunteers booking the 7:00 a.m. shift may arrive as early as 6:45 a.m.

Important FAQs
  • Volunteers must adhere to all COVID-19 Guidelines upon arrival to campus and during their shift and time on campus.
  • Volunteers may arrive as early as 8:45 a.m. and stay on campus until 8:00 p.m. NOTE: Volunteers booking the 7:00 a.m. shift may arrive as early as 6:45 a.m.
  • Volunteer shifts are not eligible for overnight accommodations.

Registering Multiple Volunteers
  • Volunteer space is limited and not suited to group registrations. Availability to register more than two volunteers per day is very limited.
  • Multiple volunteers per registration are permitted on a space available basis. If multiple spaces are not available, please check another volunteer department and/or date for availability.
  • A separate name must be provided for each volunteer at the time of registration. Duplicate registrations (same name, same date) will be cancelled automatically to open space for other volunteers.
  • We cannot change names on an existing volunteer registration. If someone is no longer able to attend, please notify volunteer@esalen.org so the registration may be cancelled.
